Core Web Vitals — Thresholds & Site Optimisations

LCP
Largest Contentful Paint
✓ Good: ≤ 2.5s⚠ Needs work: 2.5s – 4.0s✗ Poor: > 4.0s

Time until the largest visible element (hero image/video) is rendered.

Current optimisations on this site

  • Hero video uses /api/video-proxy with preload="auto" — already optimised
  • poster= image loads instantly as fallback while video streams
  • Google Fonts use display=swap + non-blocking preload — no render-blocking
  • fetchpriority="high" on above-fold images
INP
Interaction to Next Paint
✓ Good: ≤ 200ms⚠ Needs work: 200ms – 500ms✗ Poor: > 500ms

Responsiveness to user interactions (clicks, taps, key presses).

Current optimisations on this site

  • content-visibility: auto on below-fold sections reduces layout work
  • Heavy components (FAQ accordion, reviews carousel) are client-only
  • GTM fires async — does not block main thread on load
  • No synchronous XHR or blocking scripts
CLS
Cumulative Layout Shift
✓ Good: ≤ 0.1⚠ Needs work: 0.1 – 0.25✗ Poor: > 0.25

Unexpected visual movement of page elements during load.

Current optimisations on this site

  • Header has min-height: 64px + contain: layout — reserved space prevents shift
  • All BlogCard images have explicit width + height attributes
  • Google Fonts use font-display: swap — text stays visible during swap
  • Video element has absolute positioning — does not affect document flow

What this checkpoint is for: The site launched in late June 2026. Google typically takes 2–4 weeks to fully index and rank new pages. Jul 15–22 is the first window where meaningful position data should appear for local keywords. Use this checklist to capture a baseline snapshot and identify which terms need more work.

Step-by-Step Checklist

1

Open GSC Performance — Jul 15–22 window

Set date range to Jul 15–22. Compare against Jul 1–14 baseline. Look at Queries tab.

Open Jul 15–22 Performance
2

Check each P1 keyword position

Use the keyword chips in the table below. Target: all 5 local terms at position ≤ 15. Any term with 0 impressions needs a re-index request.

3

Compare vs. Jul 1–14 baseline

Open the baseline window to see where rankings started. Any keyword that moved from position 20+ to 10 or better is a win.

4

Check Coverage for any new errors

Any pages that dropped from Indexed to Excluded or Error need immediate attention.

Local Keyword Tracking

Track these keywords in GSC Performance → Queries. Filter by query to see impressions, clicks, and average position over time. Open GSC Performance

How to track a keyword in GSC

  1. Click any keyword chip above to open GSC Performance filtered to that query
  2. Set date range to Last 3 months for meaningful data
  3. Check Impressions (visibility) and Average Position (ranking)
  4. A position of 1–10 means you're on page 1 of Google — aim to move every keyword under 10
  5. If impressions are 0, the keyword hasn't been seen yet — give it 2–4 weeks after indexing

Recommended Monitoring Schedule

Weekly

  • Check GSC Coverage for new errors
  • Review Performance clicks/impressions
  • Check /sitemap-status for any 4xx URLs

  • Check Mobile Usability for new issues
  • Compare top queries month-over-month
  • Check keyword positions for top 9 local terms

After Each Publish

  • Re-submit sitemap.xml in GSC Sitemaps
  • Request indexing for changed pages via URL Inspection
  • Verify /api/og returns 200 (OG images)
  • Verify /api/video-proxy returns 206
  • Run /sitemap-status to confirm all 26 URLs are 200
